Pit Bulls - Puppies - General Description
Pit Bulls appeared around the 19th century as a result of the crossing of Bulldogs and Terriers. This breed got all the advantages of excellent fighters. They are strong, courageous, determined and devoted to the task they have to accomplish and extremely affectionate with their owners. However, the Pit Bull as a separate breed does not exist. When we say Pit Bulls, we mean the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire or the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Even though all three breeds are relatively the same in appearance, their descriptions and standard requirements differ. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a sturdy muscular dog of a medium size. They have a wide deep muzzle with rather small ears, either natural or cropped, and flat skull. The tail is set rather low. The American Pit Bull Terrier is bred in many colors and patterns. The standard does not set a definite coat color the American Pit Bull Terrier should come in. The most important characteristic of the breed is its agility, zest and courage. These dogs are wonderful companions.
The American Staffordshire should give an impression of great strength for his medium size. Weight is not mentioned in the standard. Preferable height is 18-19 inches at the shoulders. These dogs are husky and strong. The neck should be slightly arched and rather long. The ideal head is broad and of a medium size. Uncropped ears are preferred. Eyes are dark, round and well set apart.
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier resembles the American Staffordshire in appearance. However, those who consider the Staffordshire Bull Terrier just a smaller version of the American Staffordshire are mistaken. Am Staff's body, legs and tail are longer and the Am Staff's front feet point forward. When compared to each other, these breeds represent a totally different balance and the difference in appearances is obviously observed. Pit Bulls are an interesting dog breed, which deserves your attention.
